Internships
/ Chile Visits
|
One very important facet of our ministry in Chile apart
from the normal work of the church and mission is based in receiving
supporting churches and others for varied lengths of time, either as
visitors or as interns. As missionaries, we have both the
responsibility and the privilege to:
-
Help supporting
churches as best as is possible know us and the work we do.
-
Help educate and inspire
members of those churches in their prayer and financial connection
to their cross-cultural
outreaches.
-
Influence those that
visit toward working directly and indirectly themselves in mission.
-
Promote and sponsor in-the-field
experiences and internships for college-aged young people and
others, as our part of God’s desire to impact their lives in a
profound way and to lift up a new generation of workers for the field.
-
Impact Chileans with
the testimonies and lives of those from other places.
One of the real opportunities we use to promote ourselves
and Chile is the National Missionary Convention. We also use it to personally connect with interested, future interns
and others that want to visit Chile. We have a
ˇCHILE CHILE CHILE! exhibit booth there
every year and we look
forward to meeting you!!

Internships
School-Sponsored:
At present, we serve as an official internship
site for Lincoln Christian College in Lincoln, IL. We have had experience in administering
"for credit" internship programs
for them and for other Christian colleges as well. We are open to either
Fall
or Spring semester internships and also to other extended terms. We are a
Chilean urban new-church ministry setting that includes a variety of
outreaches and ministries, including an active
TESL
English Club.
Many possibilities exist to connect. Come learn and develop with us.
Summer Interns:
We have had several years of experience in
hosting summer interns. We look forward to this opportunity every
Summer (which is our Winter). Very often, summer internships
also qualify for college credit and we work with
colleges and students
toward that end. Our internships are two months long (June and July).
All of our internship experiences are structured to accomplish the following purpose and
goals.
Purpose:
That each intern might learn
about and intimately experience Chilean culture and
cross-cultural ministry in a team setting, broadening their own worldview, and
growing in their own spiritual life.
Goals:
-
To improve Spanish
communication skills.
-
To grow in understanding
basic dynamics of South American/Chilean culture.
-
To be exposed to other ministries in Chile.
-
To develop and live out
the heart of a servant.
-
To better know if
cross-cultural ministry is for you.
-
To develop in disciplines
that foster spiritual growth and to know yourself better.

Other:
Sometimes those wanting to come be a part of our
ministry do not
fall into any of the above categories. We are open to
discuss with anyone the possibility of spending time in Chile as
part of our mission team. This is an opportunity to have a
cross-cultural experience at the same
time by taking time off from studies or
from work to help us.
Chile Visits
Churches:
There is no better way to increase ownership of
and enthusiasm for mission work than to visit a missionary
that you support in the field. The value of that visit to the
field setting and
to the church making the visit cannot be underestimated,
especially
if that missionary represents a major investment of prayers and
finances. Specifically, a periodic visit will:
-
Enable the church to understand the setting of the missionary.
-
Get a realistic idea of what is needed to accomplish the work.
-
Encourage the missionary and let them know that the church cares.
-
Give real help while there to the work of the mission.
-
Serve to impact the life of each participant.
-
Build a deeper relationship with the missionary.
-
Serve to build commitment and enthusiasm in the church itself.
-
Leave an indelible, impacting
impression upon the nationals.
Some of our supporting churches have
visited more than once. Another has sent two groups--one of youth
and one of adults. There are always ways for each person to
help and to connect, be they a man, woman, teen, or child. We can help any of
our churches plan and prepare their trip here and we look
forward to doing so. There is simply no other way to
fortify the support of a missionary and to build a relationship
with them than to visit them in the field.
Youth Groups:
Youth are especially impacted by cross-cultural
experiences. Such a trip can even send a young person to
Bible college and on to serve the Lord in a full-time capacity. Such trips heighten enthusiasm and commitment, which in turn
will bring more youth into the group. Trips need to be
well-organized and well-prepared in advance, but the pay-off is
well worth it.
We would like to encourage the youth leaders of
our supporting churches to think of the greater good of such a
trip. It’s also been our experience that many youth groups
have been to countries such as Mexico, Honduras or Haiti to work
with the poor, but
not to more developed countries such as Chile. In Chile, the
spiritual battle is every bit as real. Our kind of
opportunity also gives the leaders the possibility of seeing a
different side of mission work.
Contact us and let us examine the
possibilities with you and answer any questions you may have.

Individuals:
It has been a blessing and privilege to receive
individuals and families here, who have come on their own to
experience and to help. We are extremely open to this kind of
opportunity and urge families to consider such a trip, maybe
incorporating their personal vacation with a visit to a missionary
serving in a foreign country.
