It’s that time of year again! This News Note will be totally dedicated to this year’s two-month internship opportunity with us, offered annually during the months of June and July that is specifically geared to college-age young people. (The mere mention of summer months should warm the hearts of all of you living in the northern part of the U.S. right about now!). internship has three general objectives within its focus:

  1. Give a first-hand taste of Latin American (Chilean) mission work, with a specific focus on our work with children, youth and adults. Participants also travel, meet and talk with other missionaries and national workers involved in a variety of other settings and types of work. All of the above is set within Chile culture, which in itself adds a challenging dimension to being here.

  2. Develop the Spanish language skills of participants (at every level they enter). This is somewhat guaranteed, as each person will live with a Chilean family. Not to panic, as we match participants to those families—some of whom speak some English.

  3. Investigate if, perhaps, God would be encouraging interns toward cross-cultural ministry in Chile or elsewhere.

The experience has proven in past years to be very challenging and rewarding, stretching each person in unexpected ways -- causing them to re-think and broaden their own world view. The internship name is based on Hebrews 6:7.

INTO THE RAIN – A Season in Santiago

“Land that drinks in the rain often falling on it and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is farmed receives the blessing of God.” - Hebrews 6:7

The verse is self-explanatory within an internship context, as those that come will be blessed in many ways by their experience here. The mission statement and main purpose of the internship are as follows:

Mission Statement: Exposure, experience and encouragement in a cross-cultural setting.

Main Purpose: That all interns might learn about and intimately experience many aspects of the Chilean culture, broad their own worldview and grow in their own spiritual life.

INTERNSHIP INFORMATION

We are pleased that Katie Hayden will be our team’s internship coordinator in 2005. Katie, a 2003 graduate of Ozark Christian College, spent one full semester with us in 2001. She has returned to work full time for at least two years to help develop a discipleship ministry to teenage girls and help in other areas as well.

Please complete the requested application information and return it via Email. We will promptly follow up on all applications. If you wish to be contacted by phone or have additional questions, please include your phone number and the best time to reach you. While we communicate primarily through Email, we are able to make calls to the U.S. inexpensively.

We very much look forward to hosting the summer internships each year and feel that what we have to offer is among the very best internships offered by any mission group or organization, at a very reasonable cost. Please share this information with your college-age young people at their respective universities or any college-age Christian friend that might be interested.

Much of what our work involves would be considered “ground-breaking” work. We now are also officially a church plant. The proposed name of the new church is Iglesia Cristiana “Jesús Es EL CAMINO”. We are always searching for young (and less-young) people to be a part of one of our many diverse areas of ministry or to help us develop new ones. Possible areas of involvement for interns include the following:

Santiago, Chile, is surprisingly like many large U.S. cities, with its malls, cell phones, good public transportation and good food (including fast-food for those who can’t live without pizza, hamburgers and fries - ha ha). It’s even safer than most of its U.S. equivalents. However, don’t be mistaken - Satan has Chile in chains in many ways. Come be a part and know that God will bless you in whatever way He would take you forward.

God bless!
